Jack Keapokuiiwaokalani “Butchie” Bishaw Jr. passed on to eternal life early morning on February 23, 2018, in Waikiki, Hawaii, where he called home most of his life. He was “29” years old, as he always liked to tell people when asked his age.
Jack is survived by his mother, Kuualoha “Peachie” Bishaw; Wife, Patricia Bishaw; Son Jonah Bishaw and wife, Eme; Son Joshua Bishaw and wife, Elisha; The bestest only Daughter Kanani Bishaw and husband, Kiko Lester; Grandchildren Isaiah, Ceres,Malaika and Alicia.
Jack is also survived by his siblings Karen Kanoho, Jacqueline” Joey” Bishaw, Peaches Uilani Dalit (Fred Dalit), and Guy Bishaw.
Jack graduated Intermediate School from Saint Augustine in Waikiki and continued on to Kaimuki High School, where he graduated. After graduation, Jack enlisted in the Marine Corp. and proudly and heroically served not one, but two tours of duty in Vietnam. Jack’s tours in Vietnam were fundamental in shaping his life for many years to come. Until his death, Jack wore his service dates and “Vets for Christ” inscribed on his hat.
Shortly after his honorable discharge from the Marines, Jack was employed by Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. Working at the shipyard allowed Jack to continue serving his country. Jack worked for 48 years as a Pipefitter and was well respected for his accomplishments and work ethic, including mentoring new apprentices and mechanics. Jack worked at the shipyard until two weeks before his death.
Jack met his wife Trish while surfing in Waikiki. They were married on July 3, 1971, and moved to Waimanalo, Hawaii, with their growing family in 1975. In 1984, Jack moved back to Waikiki.
Jack’s faith was truly important to him. One of his proudest accomplishments was being chosen as one of the first Eucharistic Ministers at Saint George Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held at Saint Augustine Church in Waikiki on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Public viewing is at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Eulogy at 10:00 a.m., and Mass at 11:00 a.m.
