Obituary for Genalyn Costales Manuel

Genalyn was Survived by her Husband: Richie Manuel, Daughter: Julieanne Rose,
and Son: Archie James, Brother's: Randy (Mazen) Costales, Hansel (Kathy) Costales,
and Erwin Costales. She is pre-deceased by Herman Costales, Justina Costales,
and Nancy Costales.

Genalyn was born to the late Amonio Herman Anselmo Costales and the
late Justina Urian Costales on January 7, 1982 in Magsingal, Iloco Sor,
Philippines. She was the first born and only girl of the 4 siblings, which
also included Randy, Hansel, and Erwin. At a young age of 15, Gina’s
mother passed away and she had to take on the role of not only big sister,
but also mom. She helped her dad Herman watch her younger siblings
until he came to Hawaii around 1999. Gina did a great job watching her
siblings all while studying Hotel and restaurant management at Iloco Sor
Community College.

In 2000, Gina, Randy, Hansel and Erwin came to Hawaii to be with their
dad. The boys came to Lana’i to finish schooling while Gina and their
father remained in Maui to work for a couple years. When Gina moved
here to Lana’i she worked at Hotel Lanai and eventually started working at
Four Seasons in the food and beverage department for 17 years. She
enjoyed working with all of her co-workers and making the guests like
family. Hospitality was her gift and returning guests would always request
for her.

Besides work, Gina eventually started a family with Richie Manuel. In May
2006, they were blessed with their firstborn, Julieanne Rose. Julieanne
was known for her cute big eyes and Gina was so happy. A year later, May
2007, Richie and Gina got married here at Sacred Hearts Church. Then
the year after, in October of 2008, they were yet again blessed to have their
2nd child, Archie James, known for his singing. Julie and Archie would
always fight about who is mom’s favorite. Gina loved and spoiled her kids.
They were her world.

Gina’s other passion was cooking. Gina would always tell everyone, “Oh
we have dinner. It's only small.” And yet, when we walk in the door, her
table would be all full of delicious Filipino food and dessert. She would post
it all on facebook and everyone would comment and wish they were invited
for dinner. Everyone would know what's on Gena’s Menu for Breakfast,
Lunch, and Dinner.

Desserts were one of her favorite hobbies as well. She would make many
different types and loved to experiment with new recipes. Some of our
favorite dishes were Leche flan, empanada, Avocado Ice candy, and her
best sellers, Bibinka and Leche Puto. We will definitely miss her cooking
but at the same time, this gives everyone a chance now to lose weight.
There is no such thing as a diet if you live under Gina’s roof. Thankfully, we
have her recipe book also.

Gina was a social butterfly. She’s known for her laughter and playfulness.
She would always joke around with everyone. Everytime you enter the
room with her, you can’t help but smile.
She enjoyed being around family. Family gatherings mostly included
dinners and every so often camping.

There are no words to describe our loss. It will be so hard to continue
everyday life without you Gina. An amazing mother, supportive wife, caring
sister, loving daughter, and the most generous friend. You will be known
forever for your bright smile and kind soul. We are all blessed to call you
our family. And don’t worry about your little babies. Julie, Archie, and your
nieces and nephews Jurian, Hunter, Jojo and Jax will always be taken care
of. We will be sure to always remind them of their Aunty Gina who is flying
with the Angels with Mama and Papa. Heaven is lucky to have you now
and we know that you are resting and for that, we are thankful. We love
you Gina.
