Obituary for Maria Kauhiwai Rivera
Maria Kauhiwai Rivera, 74, passed away January 24, 2023 at Pali Momi Medical Center.
Born on August 22, 1948 to the late Charles and Cecilia Kuia, she was the eldest of 6 children. Proud graduate of Farrington High School, she married the love her life, Calvin Rivera, on June 21, 1968. She became a mother in 1976 and went on to have 2 daughters whom she loved more than anything. She had a successful career as an Administrative Assistant, working for companies such as Fun Sun Tours and RGIS Inventory. She was also a dispatcher for Hawaii Protective Authority and worked as a clerk in the Hawaii State Capitol.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Antoinette Davis and Laterra Rivera (Roy). Her grandsons Kenneth Davis III (Imani), Kalia Davis (Hannah), Kainoa Davis (Tayler), Kekoa Davis, Ikaika Lotu, Nicholas Lotu and Joden Elisara. Granddaughters Ashleigh Rivera, Kendall Davis, Jailynn Lotu, Denari Elisara and Jay-Harmony Elisara. Great grandsons Kailer James Davis and Iverson James Davis. Calvin Rivera, father of Antoinette and Laterra. Brothers Reuben Kuia, Curtis Kuia, Carlton Kuia and Carter Kuia. Sisters in Law, Heidi Kuia and Christine Kuia. Hanai sister June Kalili Falmog. Nieces Crystal, Corie, Moana and Ui. Nephews Chazz, Kali, Kaau, Keano, Kekaimalu, and Kalai. Host of cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Aika Kuia, Jr.
A service will be held March 3rd, 2023 at Ballard Mortuary Moanalua, 1150 Kikowaena Street, Honolulu, from 10am-2pm. Friends and relatives are invited. A celebration of life will be held after services in Waimanalo, Hawaii.
