Obituary for Samullette Makakoa Tupola (Naihe)

Samuellette “Sugar” Makakoa Tupola was a beloved mother, grandmother, and a dear friend to all. She was born in Ho’olehua, Moloka’i on June 13, 1955 and after a long battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, passed away in Kahuku, Hawaii on September 26, 2021 with her son and full time caregiver, Le’a “Kaulana”, by her side.

She is survived by her four children Ikona Tupola, Michael Tupola, Le’a “Kaulana” Tupola, and Poliahu Sauni. As well as her five grandchildren Melia Tupola, Melanie Sauni, Lawakua Sauni, La’ikū Sauni, and Manaola Sauni.

Sugar was always filled with so much laughter and love, and her family meant everything to her. She had a gift of making everyone around her feel welcome, and would talk to anyone as if she knew them for years; making sure everyone felt at home with her, because Sugar is the very definition of home.

Services for Sugar to be held at the LDS Hau’ula Mauka Chapel and she will be laid to rest in Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery in Kāne’ohe.
