Obituary for Tarsila Pereira Scanlan

Tarsila Pereira Scanlan, 96, passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2022.

Tarsila, also known as Carmen, was born in the Cataluña province of Spain and grew up in Callela and Barcelona. She was the oldest of five sisters. She moved to the United States following her marriage to Edward Joseph Scanlan who had been stationed in Spain while in the US Air Force. They had three children.

She lived a fascinating life and loved to travel and enjoyed moving around to various states and countries during her husband's career in the USAF. They moved to Hawaii after retirement where she lived for over 40 years. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, garden, crochet, and watch her Spanish programs on television. She was involved in her church at St. Jude's Catholic parish and did charitable work. She got her Associates degree in her 60's and loved reading and, later, listening to audiobooks.

Her beautiful spirit, boundless energy, impeccable taste and style and her quirky sense of humor will be missed immensely by her loving family. She had a passionate "joie de vivre" that she spread to those around her and a contagious laugh that will always be remembered. She was a wonderful mother and adoring grandma that was loved enormously and will live forever in our hearts.

Tarsila is predeceased by her husband Edward. She is survived by her two daughters Elizabeth and Alexandra, and her son, Edward. She had 4 grandchildren; Luis, Jessica, Edward and Joshua. She had one great grandson, Javier. She also was mom to her chihuahua bestie, Houdini.

She has three sisters living in Barcelona, Spain, (Maria, Isabel and Milagros) and one sister living in Sydney, Australia (Juana) as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services will be held at St. Jude's Catholic church in Makakilo on April 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. She will be interred at the Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery in Kaneohe with her husband at 2:00 p.m. that same day
