My Portuguese brother

I met Jimmy shortly aftermoving to Hawaii in early 1972. He encouraged and mentored me. I also went to high school in Oakland, but to Bishop O'Dowd, where his brother went. When I would go to Trappers, he would always let me sit in for a couple of tunes. But he knew I was nervous. So he would give me this kind of introduction: "I have a friend who I'd like to bring up to the stage. She's Portuguese, but we won't hold that against her. She went to Bishop O'Dowd and I went to St. Elizabeth's, but we won't hold that against her. She was a Dragon and I was a Mustang, but we won't hold it against her." By the time he was finished with crazy intro, I was laughing so hard, I forgot to be nervous. I'm living in the Seattle area now with a band of my own. Whatever I've done, i credit to Jimmy's love and kindness and mentoring. I'll miss you Jimmy. May you rest in peace.

All my love, Carole
